Shotton Mill Hosts Senior UK and Welsh Government Officials

Shotton Mill Limited was pleased to host a joint visit on Friday, July 18, 2025, welcoming The Rt. Hon. Sir Mark Tami MP, UK Government Deputy Chief Whip and MP for Alyn and Deeside, alongside Jack Sargeant MS, in his capacity as Member of the Senedd for Alyn and Deeside. Jack is also the Welsh Government Minister for Culture, Skills and Social Partnership. Both officials were accompanied by their teams for a comprehensive site tour.

The visit provided a key opportunity to update the distinguished guests on the rapid progress of Shotton Mill's ambitious £1.4 billion development. We showcased significant advancements in transforming the site into one of Europe's most technologically advanced and largest paper mills. A highlight was a guided tour of the new tissue facilities, which are progressing at an impressive pace toward their scheduled operational start in the first quarter of 2026. This allowed Sir Mark Tami and Jack Sargeant to see firsthand the substantial investment and cutting-edge technology being implemented.

Discussions during the visit underscored Shotton Mill Limited's vital role in boosting the regional economy and contributing to sustainable manufacturing in North Wales. The project is set to create and protect over 400 highly skilled advanced manufacturing jobs. It will also utilise 830,000 tonnes of recovered fibre annually for containerboard production, significantly contributing to the UK's circular economy.
