Building the Future: Shotton Mill Limited Hosts Skills Development Group Discussions

At Shotton Mill Limited, we believe that building a world-class facility requires more than just engineering; it requires a world-class workforce. This past week marked a truly special chapter in our journey as we hosted a powerhouse of regional and national partners to collaboratively shape the future of skills in North Wales.

We were honoured to welcome representatives from the Welsh Government, Ambition North Wales, Coleg Cambria, Wrexham University, and Flintshire County Council. The focus of the visit was to discuss a "roadmap" approach to the development of skills pathways, ensuring that the growth of the Mill translates into sustainable, high-value career opportunities for the local community and the wider region.

During the visit, our team walked through our strategic approach to talent development and hosted a comprehensive tour of the facility to bring the scale and ambition of the Shotton Mill project to life. Our discussions focused on how we can align our workforce needs with regional priorities, ensuring a seamless transition from education into the paper and manufacturing sectors.

Ben Vaughan, Training Manager at Shotton Mill Limited, highlighted the importance of this collaborative approach:

"It was a privilege to demonstrate how Shotton Mill Limited is translating its vision into a tangible roadmap for talent. By aligning our internal development strategies with the expertise of our partners in government and education, we are creating a robust foundation for the future. We aren't just building a mill; we are creating clear, sustainable pathways that allow our local community to thrive alongside us. This level of partnership ensures that the skills we develop today will drive the long-term prosperity of the paper industry in Wales for decades to come."

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all involved for their insight and dedication. The future of manufacturing is being built right here in Flintshire, and it is being built on a foundation of shared skills, ambition, and partnership.
